Welcome to the Valley Vegetarian blog site. Nothing fancy just good, homestyle cooking. You’ll find my thoughts on vegetarian lifestyle, vegetarian recipes and information on local restaurants, markets and farms that support a vegetarian lifestyle.
How do I define vegetarianism? There are lacto-ovo vegetarians who eat both eggs and dairy products and lacto vegetarians who eat all dairy products but no eggs. There are semi and demi vegetarians that eat less meat than the average person and may eat fish. There are vegans whose diet does not include animal products at all and there are fruitarians who only eat foods that don’t kill the plant and consume mainly raw fruit, nuts and grains. A pescetarian is a vegetarian who also consumes fish.
Which am I? I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian so my recipes are mainly lacto-ovo but many are vegan or vegan friendly. My vegan recipes are posted here every Wednesday. My lacto-ovo vegetarian recipes are printed in the Ojai Valley News each Friday under the header, Chef Randy.
My objective is to provide a nexus for the vegetarian community in the Ojai Valley. My hope is that all vegetarian lifestyles will benefit, if only a little, from this blog.
